Angelina Jolie and Hillary Clinton: Connection, Family Ties & Humanitarian Work

If you have ever wondered why angelina jolie and hillary clinton appear in the same search results, you are not alone. One is a Hollywood actress turned global humanitarian; the other is one of the most consequential political figures in modern American history. Yet their names cross paths for real, documented reasons: they are distant relatives, and they have shared the world stage at a major refugee event. This guide covers who they are, how they are connected, and what is fact versus gossip.

Who Is Angelina Jolie?

Angelina Jolie is an American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles, California. She rose to stardom in the late 1990s and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted (1999). She became a global box-office star with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Salt, and Disney’s Maleficent films.

Beyond acting, Jolie is one of the most recognized humanitarians of her generation. She served as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador from 2001 to 2012 and as a Special Envoy from 2012 until December 2022, visiting refugee camps in dozens of countries. She is a mother of six and supports charities focused on conservation, education, and women’s rights. More on her career is on her Wikipedia page.

Who Is Hillary Clinton?

Hillary Clinton is an American politician, diplomat, and lawyer born on October 26, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. She served as First Lady from 1993 to 2001, U.S. Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009, Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013 under Barack Obama, and in 2016 became the first woman to win a major U.S. party’s presidential nomination. Details of her career are on her Wikipedia page.

Clinton is best known for championing women’s rights — her 1995 Beijing declaration that “women’s rights are human rights” remains iconic — and that advocacy overlaps with Jolie’s.

The Angelina Jolie and Hillary Clinton Connection

What actually links them? Two verified connections — neither involving Hollywood gossip.

First, they share distant blood. Reuters-reported genealogical research makes them 9th cousins, twice removed, via Jean Cusson of St. Sulpice, Quebec — a link Clinton confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show while praising Jolie’s charity and humanitarian work.

Second, they have shared the humanitarian stage. Jolie’s refugee advocacy repeatedly intersected with the State Department during Clinton’s tenure, most publicly on World Refugee Day 2010 (see below). Like other cross-domain pairings we have covered — George Soros and Barack Obama or Judi Dench and John Paulson — this is two powerful figures from different worlds meeting through shared causes, not personal friendship.

World Refugee Day 2010: Their Joint Appearance

On June 18, 2010, Jolie and Clinton joined UNHCR chief António Guterres for a live video event marking World Refugee Day. Hosted in the Benjamin Franklin Room at the U.S. State Department, where Clinton addressed 250 guests, it linked live to Ecuador, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Syria.

Jolie joined remotely from Barranca Bermeja in northern Ecuador, home to Colombian refugees — a region she had first visited for UNHCR in 2002 — and reported that field officers had registered some 50,000 refugees there. Clinton honored the courage of millions of refugees and pledged her commitment to their cause. It remains the most visible moment the two have shared publicly, and the main reason their names still appear together in searches today.

Are Angelina Jolie and Hillary Clinton Really Related?

Yes. Reported by Reuters, genealogical research traces both women to Jean Cusson of St. Sulpice, Quebec — 9th cousins, twice removed. In genealogy terms that is an extremely distant link: a shared ancestor who lived centuries ago, and no meaningful family relationship.

The “cousins” angle is exactly why the pairing fascinates people — and Clinton’s on-air confirmation, paired with praise for Jolie’s charity work, gave it real weight. Jolie has also appeared in our coverage in other unexpected pairings, such as Aaron Rodgers and Angelina Jolie.

The “Feud” Rumors: Fact or Tabloid Fiction?

In 2013, the National Enquirer claimed Clinton could not stand Jolie, alleging years of bad blood including a supposed incident involving Bill Clinton.

The important part: none of that has ever been substantiated — no credible source, no named insider, no statement from either woman. The documented record shows the opposite: Clinton publicly praising Jolie’s humanitarian work and joining her for a refugee event. Treat the feud claims as what they are: unverified tabloid gossip, not fact.

Angelina Jolie and Hillary Clinton Today

Both remain active public figures. Jolie left her UNHCR Special Envoy role in December 2022 after two decades with the agency, continuing refugee advocacy alongside acting and directing. Clinton remains a prominent voice in American public life through writing, speaking, and advocacy.

There have been no recent reports of new joint appearances between the two, and there is no evidence of a close personal friendship. What endures is a genuinely interesting set of links — distant cousins, shared humanitarian ground, and one memorable shared stage — that explains why people keep searching for their names together.

They are two accomplished women — an actress-humanitarian and a stateswoman — whose lives intersected through distant family history and a shared commitment to refugees. Strip away the tabloid noise, and a genuinely fascinating connection remains.
